WHAT IS FITFAM?

FitFam is a non-profit, volunteer-led fitness community that thrives on the commitment of each person leading and/or attending a session, which consequently allows us to provide free and consistent access to quality fitness, wellness and an overall active lifestyle.
 

IS FITFAM REALLY FREE?

Yes it is! Everything is purely volunteer-led, which helps us make all sessions 100% free. All you need to do is register for your preferred location and show up! Exceptions include one-time special events in which case you will be notified of the cost in advance prior to registration. 
 

DO I NEED TO MEET CERTAIN PHYSICAL STANDARDS TO ATTEND A SESSION?

Although we embrace inclusiveness, we ask that you be aware of your own general health and physical capabilities. We suggest you either check your most recent physical exam or consult with your doctor to make sure you're in the clear. All workouts are designed to be safe, inclusive and challenging for all levels, with or without prior experience.
 

WHAT EXERCISES DO YOU TYPICALLY DO?

A lot of our sessions feature High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts using nothing but your own bodyweight - think pushups, squats, burpees, lunges and the like. Other types of sessions offered in Shanghai include running (urban and track), yoga and fitness boxing. You can find more information about it by visiting our Trainings page.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A FITFAM SESSION?

If you are based in Shanghai or Beijing, you will need to register for all our sessions via our technology partner Eventbank where all registration links are uploaded. You can see our list of workouts in China by clicking this link. (Note that our team is currently building our own FitFam mini program for WeChat to make the entire registration process easier.)
 

Our Kuala Lumpur sessions are all managed by our leaders via Meetup for the registration process and WhatsApp to keep the local community engaged. Click here for a look at their upcoming workouts on Meetup, or drop them a message using the number +60173697072 on the app to join the FitFam KL group and receive details and updates.

DO YOU HAVE A WECHAT GROUP FOR PEOPLE BASED IN SHANGHAI OR BEIJING?

We do have separate WeChat groups for each of our locations in both Shanghai and Beijing, however you do not need to be part of them in order to attend a session. All registrations in China happen via Eventbank. If you do wish to stay engaged with our community and access the photos that are usually shared in those groups, you can ask whoever led the session you attended to add you into the corresponding WeChat group. 

Once our mini program is up and running, you will be alerted of any changes to the workouts you've signed up for automatically without the need of checking your WeChat groups for updates.
 

HOW DO I FIND THE NEAREST LOCATION?

You can start by browsing our list of locations in any of the cities we are currently operating in, which you can also find by checking our schedule on our official WeChat page for China (ID: FitFamShanghai). By allowing our upcoming mini program to access your location, the closest workouts will automatically show in your feed first. 
 

WHAT KIND OF COMMITMENT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?

Our mission has always been (and always will be) to help people not only build but maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, which we encourage with the FitFam membership cards we give to our regular participants who attend at least 10 sessions a month (Shanghai-only for the time being). There is no official long-term commitment needed - you must register for every session you plan on attending via Eventbank, Meetup, or any other platform we use. 

HOW DO I KNOW IF A WORKOUT I SIGNED UP FOR HAS BEEN CANCELED?

For Shanghai and Beijing, all cancellations are made via Eventbank. You will receive an email from us via their platform as soon as the leader of your session cancels it and should notify their corresponding WeChat group as well, so be on the lookout for either of those notifications. However, you will soon be able to receive push notifications directly from our mini program to alert you of any cancellation due to bad air quality or inclement weather.

FitFam participants in Kuala Lumpur have their own WhatsApp group in which leaders notify their members of any cancellation. If you are interested in joining their WhatsApp group, drop a message to +60173697072 on the app to receive details and updates on all FitFam KL workouts.
 

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?

We recommend bringing gloves and at least one water bottle to most workouts unless otherwise specified. If you're attending a yoga session, we kindly ask that you bring your own mat as our partner locations and volunteer leaders do not provide them. 
 

WHO CAN LEAD A WORKOUT?

Those who champion the values of the community, who consistently participate in workouts and events and who motivate the people around them eventually become volunteer leaders. If you feel that this is you, don’t hesitate to approach an existing leader and ask to get involved!
